Nationals ink Jerry Owens to Minors deal

The Nationals have signed outfielder Jerry Owens to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Owens was a former second-round pick with the Expos in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, spending three-plus seasons in the white sox jersey before joining the Mariners' this past season.

His best year in the Major Leagues was in 2007, when he hit .267 with one home run and 32 stolen bases in 93 games with the White Sox. When Jim Bowden was Washington's general manager, one of his trades was sending Owens to Chicago for outfielder Alex Escobar on Feb.13, 2005.
